W.I.P Wednesday

YAY!  I've been visited by the Yarn Faerie twice more in the past few days and he's brought me lots and lots of wonderful yarn to make lots and lots of wonderful things for the people I love.  I have so many projects on the hooks (and just finished) that I figured I should probably only pick one for this installment of W.I.P Wednesday, and then feature the rest of them for F.O. Friday and maybe Monday Morning Mish-Mash or another W.I.P Wednesday.  Don't worry; I'm definitely going to be sharing everything I've made with the Yarn Faerie's leavings.  I promise!

Do you ever make something and then have a really hard time parting with it?  Maybe because the yarn is so awesome to work with, or you're just in love with the pattern or the colours?  I've run up against this feeling once or twice since I've been crocheting, but never so hard as I have it for this blanket.

The colours aren't something I ever thought would look good together.  Yellow and turquoise, okay.  Throw in pea green and I thought, "Ew!"  But really, they go together quite well.  This is a crib blanket for my newest nephew, who will be born in August.  The pattern is the Wavy Blanky and I'm using Loops & Thread Impeccable.

Here's a close-up of the nifty pattern.  It's 2 sc, 2 hdc, 2 dc, and 2 trc--so, so simple, yet so, so neat looking, don't you think?  When this one's all done, I think I'll be making a slightly larger version for myself.  Maybe I'll even use the same colours.

Don't forget about my Free Yarn Giveaway!  Be sure to enter to win three skeins of cuddly-soft, creamy white yarn from Loops & Threads!

WIP Wednesday

Nothing too exciting going on here in the Land of Perpetual Sunshine...except for the fact that it kinda-sorta-but not really-almost snowed here on Sunday morning!  (I guess the perpetual sunshine thing's a misnomer, huh?)  It was raining and every once in a while, there were these fat globs of almost-snow that splattered against the windscreen of our car.  I was excited for half a moment, until The Man said, "You know there will be no accumulation, right?"  Then all of my snow hopes and dreams were dashed and I pouted.

You'd think with all the ugly, cold, wet weather we had here this week-end, I would have gotten a lot of crocheting done, right?  Well, no.  I watched far too much TV (Doctor Who, Buffy, and Angel), ate far too much good food (pumpernickle bagels, turkey sandwiches on Jewish rye bread, and won ton soup), and spent far too much time with my kids.  I did, however, receive a commission to make this for a friend in Texas and started work on an afghan for the last of the babies on my Baby Gift To-Do list.  Her name is Lydia and she is almost eight months old.  She's also painfully cute and wears a lot of pink...I mean A LOT of pink.  So I dug through my stash and came up with this incredibly soft, shimmery hot pink yarn (I think it might be Red Heart's 'Shimmer', but the label's gone) and decided that a very girlie-girl needs more flowers in her life.  The pattern is here, in case you're curious.

A Granny A Day 2012

Pip from Meet Me At Mike's is hosting a Granny-A-Day-apalooza!  (Try saying that five times fast!)  I'm going to try and take part and maybe do three grannies a week.  This'll be a pretty fantastic and easy way to make an afghan, huh?  If you want to join in, visit Meet Me At Mike's and sign up.

A condundrum...

I am in the process of planning an afghan.  I'm in the colour selection phase now and I'm finding it difficult...almost like picking a tattoo.  I'll be living with this afghan for the rest of my life, and quite possibly one of my children will want to live with it after they've moved out, too.  So, while the choice of patterns was pretty easy--I'm going with Lucy's Ripples--the choice of colours is way more difficult.

I have narrowed it down to one of three choices, using my favourite colour inspiration website, design seeds.  Here are the choices.  Perhaps you can leave me a comment and help me decide?  That'd be swell!

Choice #1 - Artichoke Hues
Choice #2 - Carnival Hues
Choice #3 - Vegetable Hues, without the orange
